Community Service

The Muslim American Community, RVA, under the direction of Dr. James H. Rasheed, has a directed its Food Bank Project for more than 20 years. Residents come from all over the Richmond Churchill community to receive grocery items including produce, meats, baked goods and canned goods. The Masjid Bilal Food Bank Project as a outlet for Central Virginia Foodbank, has been the recipient of numerous community awards. This effort feeds more 1000 people annually.

This initiative has relied upon the volunteer efforts of many Churchill residents working side by side with members of the muslim community. Funding comes from donations alone. Future plans include merging this project into a Job Readiness and Financial/Computer Literacy Initiative, Restoration of Voter Rights and Integrated Family Visitation Services.

The foodbank operates the fourth weekend of each month, Fridays 2pm-4pm and Saturdays 9am –12 noon. Monetary contributions are welcome. To find out more about this initiative, contact James Rasheed at jhrasheed@aol.com.
